Kathy’s interest in having pet greyhounds began at age 12 but wasn’t fully realized until her mid-40s. She currently has four former racing greyhounds. They make such awesome pets for most people. Several of hers are registered therapy dogs providing pet therapy to people of all ages, from children to seniors. Several have also competed in various dog sports like dog agility, K9 nose works, barn hunt, obedience, rally obedience and lure coursing.
Kathy has served in many volunteer roles with Southeastern Greyhound Adoption (a local greyhound adoption group) such as kennel walker, dog profiler, membership coordinator, 5k committee and website contributions. She joined the advisory board for Southeastern Greyhound Adoption (SEGA) in January of 2010 as the Meet & Greet (M&G) Coordinator. As the M&G Coordinator, she schedules, sets up, coordinates and secures volunteers for greyhound M&Gs. M&Gs are a widely accepted concept in the greyhound adoption world where the public has opportunities to interact with pet greyhounds while being educated about the breed. M&Gs are a major contributing factor to former greyhound racers being readily adopted as pets.
Their group has been very fortunate in being able to hold weekly M&Gs at the Marietta Farmer’s Market held April thru November. This venue has provided and continues to provide them with the opportunity to adopt out many greyhounds into loving families.
